Steampunk, Done TJ Style!

Today I'm sharing a card from the new Technique Junkie 3D and Fun Folds CD - this one is called a Spring Loaded Card. In case you haven't heard, this CD contains 70 fantastic step-by-step tutorials for everything from gift boxes, to pop ups, and everything in between. Trust me, you NEED this CD!

For the front of my card, I stamped the men from Tim Holtz's Steampunk stamp collection onto a piece of chipboard that I cut using the Sizzix Styled Labels die. I layered it onto a panel of Idea-ology Kraft Resist paper and attached it using Idea-ology Long Fasteners and Washers. The edges of the panel were roughed up using Tim's Distresser and inked with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Wow! Is that cool or what??? There are so many possibilities with this technique! I decided to go with a Steampunk theme using rubber stamps from Oxford Impressions and Tim Holtz's Steampunk collection. You could also do a wonderful Fall-themed card using leaves instead of gears, or a Winter-themed card using snowflakes. How cute would that be?

Here is another open view. Imagine the recipient's surprise when they open this card! My gears were all cut from chipboard using the Gadget Gears and Mini Gears dies from Sizzix and painted with metallic Dabber paints. On top of the paper gears, I layered various Idea-ology Sprocket Gears and Spinners.

The Technique Junkie 3D and Fun Folds CD contains step-by-step pictorial instructions for this card, plus 69 other great projects. With the holidays coming up, this would make a great stocking stuffer or gift for a crafty friend (or yourself!). It would also be a great resource for handmade gifts and cards for friends and family. If you'd like to order, you can find the cd here.

Also, all the materials I used on my card can be found at Inspiration Emporium. Be sure and use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% off your order. They just got the new Cargo and Trinket Cases from Tim Holtz in - yay! Those would also make great gifts...I need to send my husband a link! ;-)

  9. Hello Shelly,

I'm like you very fond of 3D and interactive stuff, so this card is another to die for.

The front of you card is quite " plain" , but then you open the card and "bam"... everything jumps forward. This is such a nice surprise !
I love the muted colors with the stamps on for the background. De contrast between the silver and rusted gears is perfect and the swirls for the gears are such a clever idea of you .
I bet the starting idea on the CD was quite "simple", but how you made this your shows again how creative you are !

I recently bought 5 books about pop-ups but I think I'll still need this CD !
One must treat herself now and then... not ? :)

    greetings from belgium
