Flipping For Flip-its!

Have you ever come across something so simple, yet so clever, that it blows your mind just a little? That's how I feel about Stephanie Barnard's Flip-its dies from Sizzix. They are just too cool! They are incredibly easy dies to use and lend themselves to endless possibilities and styles.

I just got the Circle style (there are lots of different shapes!) and decided to break it in by creating a card for this week's Compendium of Curiosities challenge. This week it's all about Kraft Resist. I watched Tim Holtz' new video and couldn't wait to try my new Brushed Pewter Distress Stain with the technique!

How awesome is that stain on the Kraft Resist paper?! I totally had one of those 'why didn't I think of that?' moments when I was watching Tim demo. The Brushed Pewter Distress Stain is one of my favorite new products - I can't wait to the get other two colors.
Here is the flip side of the Flip-its. Crazy-amazing, right? For the back side of my circle, I stamped a tag that I cut using the Sizzix Tiny Tabs and Tags die (one of my favorite go-to dies). It's stamped with a quote from Tim's Stuff to Say stamp set and tied with the new idea-ology Paper Twine.

My first thought after I covered the stain with paper was metallic/industrial/steampunky. After I was done I realized that this looks a LOT like other cards I've done. I can't help it if I love painting gears! ;) I am going to try to resist (ha! get it?) doing more for awhile though. I have some really cool ideas for the holidays using this die. Oh, and did I mention it's also a Movers and Shapers die? That means the center section can be cut using any M&S dies. Woo hoo! The gears are turning. (Ha again!)

You can find the Flip-its die on the Sizzix site and from your local stamp store. I'm going to beg Inspiration Emporium to get some - they are so amazing!

IE Designer Challenge - Shrink Plastic!

This month, the Inspiration Emporium DT was asked to create something using Ranger's Shrink Plastic. For me, it was a true challenge! I used up at least two sheets trying to make something that I liked - it took me awhile to really get comfortable with it for some reason.

I knew the skull from Stampers Anonymous' Apothecary set would look amazing shrunk down. Since I'd never tried shrinking the plastic in the Melting Pot, I decided to try that. It is such a cool technique! I love the bubbles and amber look of the skull. I originally wanted to make earrings, but the charm ended up being just a bit too heavy, so I decided to turn it into a necklace. I backed it with a piece of Tim's new idea-ology Mirrored that was cut using the Sizzix Mini Tickets die. I used a bit of Slate alcohol ink to give it a spooky, old look. I used Glossy Accents to adhere the skull to the ticket.

After I punched a hole in the mirror, I added an idea-ology Jump Ring, Ball Chain, and a Halloween Muse Token. The Bauble was tinted with Slate Alcohol Ink - I love that shade of grey!

All the supplies I  used can be found at Inspiration Emporium via the links below. Don't forget, you can use my coupon code - stamptramp - to save 10% on your order!

Grungy Embellishment Chest

Today I have a tutorial for my latest project, this grungy Vintage Embellishment Chest, on the Sizzix blog. Make sure you check it out - I know you'll want to grab Eileen Hull's Candy Drawer die and make one yourself! Mine was inspired by a photo of an old storage unit I saw on Pinterest. A little chipboard, a little paint, and voila! You have yourself a cool little chest for all your bits and pieces.

You can see it on the blog here. Thanks so much for stopping by - let me know what you think!
