I'm always looking for gift card holders and this one is outstanding! Love your choices of colors, Shelly. Thanks for the tutorial and the chance to win your give away. Everything you do is beautiful....
Have a great week!

Congrats, Debbie! And thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments! I'm so happy to see that you are all as excited about Karen's new collection as I am. :-)

Now, onto a project I finished up yesterday, just in time to give it to my sweet husband for Father's Day.

When I first browsed through the Technique Junkie Great Gifts CD, the Toolbox project caught my eye immediately. I filed it away, knowing the perfect time would come to make one. Father's Day just happened to be the perfect occasion! It's hard to believe that this is created using nothing more than a couple sheets of cardstock and adhesive foil sheets. Since my husband works in the airline industry, I thought I'd make this look a bit aviation-y by using Tim Holtz' Riveted Metal Texture Fade to emboss the foil. I aged it by applying Black Soot Distress paint and then wiping it off.

On the bottom I added a faux ruler that I had left over from the project I made for my dad (make sure you check that tutorial out here, if you missed it!). The fastener was created with an idea-ology Label Pull - 'stuff' is spelled out with Tim's Label Letters. I used the Block Talk alpha die from Sizzix to cut his initials from heavy chipboard. I colored them with Brushed Corduroy and Gathered Twigs Distress inks and sealed them with Glossy Accents. Finally, I cut a handle from the same chipboard, colored it the same way and attached it with Finnabair's new Mechanical Brads from Prima.

Here's what it looks like when you open it. How cool is that? Since I was in a bit of a hurry after spending so much time on the outside of the box, I decided to just paint the inside with a Black Soot Distress paint dabber. When it was dry, I sanded and inked it with Brushed Corduroy Distress ink. I was pretty excited to see that Tim's Clipboard Movers and Shapers die set fit the lid of the box perfectly. I cut it from lightweight chipboard and painted it with a Silver Dabber. The front of the tray is decorated with gears that I cut using the Sizzix Steampunk On the Edge die. I use a gold dabber and black paint to give it an aged look.

If you'd like to purchase the Great Gifts CD, it is just $14.95 plus postage. A full list of what is on the CD - plus photos of each project - is available here: Great Gifts CD.

  14. I so love the toolbox - I think I want to do that to all the ugly boxes I have lying around my studioffice. I recently put a link to your post about the shadowbox ruler frame in one of my posts because it was what inspired me to come up with part of the design for a thing I was working on. I really hope you dont mind me linking it. I wanted to let you know though that I linked it though. If you prefer that I dont - please let me know and I will remove it.
